- The Royal Photographic Society is a registered educational charity and was created to promote photography in the UK and it still continues to do this today - membership is open to anyone interested and the society has more specialist groups, such as for digital imaging, fine printing, nature photography, contemporary practice, pictorialism, imaging science and moving image
- The society also runs education programmes, workshops and lectures across the UK

- Digital cameras allow photographers to transfer their images straight onto a computer
